We are surrounded by vineyards, and you can easily visit our diverse wineries on foot or by bike. A wine tasting is therefore a must during your holiday in Slovenia, and the Vipava Valley is the ideal location to sample some of the country's best wines.
Wine House Erneic
The vineyard at their estate in Ozeljan was planted in the 1980s, and Vina Erneic is now run by Primož and Erika Lojk, along with their sons Rok and Anže. You'll join them at their table, and it will feel like spending an evening with the family. Their estate is surrounded by vineyards, and you'll have a beautiful view of the Vipava Valley from this spot.
The tasting
Not every tasting is the same in the valley, and that's precisely what makes it so enjoyable to visit several during your holiday. What they all have in common is that the wines are of exceptional quality and production is on a small scale.
Erika, Primož, Rok and Anže make you feel as though you've known the family for years. The table is filled with homemade snacks, local cured meats and local cheeses and they really take their time with you. The tasting is small-scale, intimate and fills the entire evening. In good weather, the tastings are organised outdoors and, in addition to the wines, you can also enjoy the beautiful view. A visit to the cellar is part of the tasting. Here, underground, you can clearly see the soil structure and ’terroir’ on which the grapes grow, which is very special.
You will taste five different wines, from crisp whites to full-bodied reds. Think of the local white grape varieties Malvasia and Rebula, but Pinot Blanc and Chardonnay also produce delicious wines. The grapes they use to produce red wines are Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.
Sometimes Rok brings out his accordion and sweeps you away with his unique instrument, which he had custom-made locally, into traditional music. All in all, a very special experience in which you are not only immersed in Slovenian traditions but also experience how winemaking is an inseparable part of Slovenian heritage.
The location
From our studios, you can take a beautiful walk through the valley to Vina Erneic (3 km), or you can combine the wine tasting with a lovely bike ride.
Above the village of Ozeljan, you'll find Skozno, a special opening in the rocks that offers a completely different viewpoint of the picturesque valley. Therefore, it can also be a good option to do the tasting after this walk. Read more about this Walk in our other blog.
If your need for adrenaline is great, you can also do the tasting after an adventurous paragliding descent; the landing site of this famous paragliding area in the Vipava Valley is located very close by.
Good to know
- We can drop you off or pick you up from the tasting, so you can leave the car.
- The wine tasting is organised for a maximum of 12 guests. It is also possible to book a wine tasting for larger groups.
- The wine tasting will be organised in the vineyard if the weather is nice, and in the wine cellar if the weather is bad. So, always bring a cardigan or jacket in case it cools down a bit.
- The wine tasting can be booked by phone or email. We can also do this for you.
- Besides Slovene, they also speak good English, Italian and Croatian.
- It is also possible to have the wines delivered to your home.
